This part of Mallorca will appeal to those looking for a quiet and peaceful relaxing holiday.
Soller's main focus is the Plaça Constitució (town's main square) which is surrounded by cafés and some very interesting buildings such as the church of Sant Bartomeu flanked by town hall and the Banco de Soller, a remarkable 1912 modernist building designed by the Catalan architect Joan Rubió i Bellver, a follower of Antoni Gaudí. From the train station, take the famous old wood train which still rattles its way to Palma since 1911, this is an absolute must-do when on holidays in the Soller and Puerto de Soller area.
Also from the station, the historic electric tram runs through the square to Puerto de Soller, a beautiful, almost circular, well protected bay. From here you can take a boat along the wild, rugged northern coast to sheltered little bays inaccessible by road. Around the bay are a good number of small restaurants and shops. Holidays in Puerto de Soller centre on the picturesque fishing harbour, the marina and the beachfront between the harbour and Repic beach. The area very popular with walkers and nature lovers, Puerto de Soller is superbly situated for walking in the Tramuntana Mountains and leisurely exploration the nearby attractive mountain villages of Fornalutx and Biniaraitx, whilst a little further along the coast is Deia, an area of musicians, painters, poets and artists who have for many years found inspiration here, the surrounding countryside is the pure essence of Mallorca with orange, lemon groves, fig trees and olive groves... genuinely Mediterranean!.
